Walking and Climbing

Tryfan

20 minutes up the Nant Ffrancon lies Llyn Ogwen, at the foot of Tryfan.  One of the highest mountains of Snowdonia, Tryfan offers a more challenging route to the summit.  Nearby Glyder Fawr and Glyder Bach offer a rewarding day's walking with views of Llyn Idwal and the Devil's Kitchen.  Across the valley lie the Carneddau, with Pen yr Ole Wen towering over Llyn Ogwen.

Angling

Llyn Ogwen

There is plenty of choice for the trout/salmon/sea trout angler.  The nearby River Ogwen has all, whilst the mountain lakes of Llyn Ogwen, Llyn Idwal and Ffynon Lloer offer wild brown trout (Ogwen is stocked with brown and rainbow trout). Idwal, in particular, must be one of the most picturesque lakes of all, over which to cast a fly.

A little further finds the Seiont catchment, including Llyn Padarn, Cwellyn and the rivers Seiont, Gwrfai and Llyfni.

For Sea Anglers, the coast of Anglesey offers many fishing marks.

Canoeing / Kayaking

Anglesey Coast

There are many lakes and rivers in the area, such as Llyn Padarn, near Llanberis.  However, permission to paddle rivers should be sought from the local landowners and we ask that kayakers respect local tradition and avoid the rivers Ogwen and Seiont during the main salmon fishing season (September/October).  As we are near to the coast, those wishing to go sea kayaking will find the coast of Anglesey an ideal place to explore. Surf-Lines, based in Llanberis, offer equipment and information.
